Slimming and reshaping the jaws is a common desire. Two common methods exist to achieve this aim. Injectable muscle relaxants can be used in a carefully placed manner to shrink and reduce the bulk of jaw muscles, giving a slimmer appearance. This is particularly effective in people who habitually clench and grind their teeth.
However, in other cases, the shape of the bone of the jaws is simply very wide. In these cases, while muscle relaxants can give some improvement, complete correction requires addressing the anatomy of the jaws. Surgical reduction of the jaws and/or soft tissues can be performed to create this narrower, slimmer appearance. It is done through incisions inside the mouth, leaving no external scar. A general anaesthetic is needed to facilitate this treatment.
